THEA & GEORGE'S STORY

I was dubious when I first came, but right from the start there was an easing of the back problems. If anyone asks me now, I say “Alex keeps me moving” …

STEVE'S STORY

I was unable to play golf which is one of my passions. The problems were stopping me playing. I am please to say that in the last month I played three times…

DAVID'S STORY

If you’re passing, pop in, have a cup of tea and a chat. It’s unique, I doubt that there is another clinic like this in the country…

Chiropractic FAQs

What is a chiropractor?

A Chiropractic is an individual who has trained for between 4-5 years at university, at degree level or above, for certification as a Doctor of Chiropractic. They specialise in the manual treatment of nerve, muscle and joint problems, using techniques such as ‘Chiropractic Adjustments’. In the UK they are registered with the General Chiropractic Council.

What does a chiropractor do?

Chiropractic means ‘hands’, and chiropractors use their hands with a technique called an adjustment to gently restore movement to stuck joints in turn reducing nerve irritation, decreasing pain and increasing flexibility. There are over 100 chiropractic techniques.

What do chiropractors treat?

Chiropractors treat:

  • Lower back pain and sciatica
  • Neck Pain
  • Joint Pain
  • Muscle Spasm and Cramp
  • Headaches and Migraine
  • Frozen Shoulder
  • Tennis Elbow
  • Tension caused by tight muscles or pain
What is the difference between a Chiropractor and an Osteopath?

There are many similarities between Chiropractors and Osteopaths, often making it tricky to decide who to see for what. Whilst there is overlap, Chiropractors mostly focus on the nervous system first, then joints and muscles, whereas Osteopaths mostly focus on the joints and muscles first.

Chiropractors use a hands-on technique called an adjustment, whereas Osteopaths use a technique called a manipulation. Both can offer support with stretching, exercises and lift style advice.

Ultimately, the choice between chiropractic care and osteopathic care will depend on individual needs and preferences.

Can a chiropractor help with Sciatica?

Yes, sciatica is irritation of the sciatic nerve (a large nerve that supports the function of the muscles of the leg). Often pain presents in the buttock, down the back of the thigh and into the outside of the calf or foot, but sometimes pain is only in the outside of the calf or foot.

Sciatica is mostly caused by issues in the lower back, where the nerve originates, such as disc herniations, compression by a muscle/bony spur, or irritation due to poorly moving joints in the lumbar spine. Chiropractors help by diagnosing the cause, and gently removing the irritation. Then we work to strength, correct and rehabilitate the spine.

Is a chiropractor a doctor?

Chiropractors are medically trained to understand general medical conditions, to use orthopaedic and neurological testing for nerve muscle and joint issues, and to take and read x-rays. Once qualified they are called Doctor of Chiropractic. This is not to be confused with a General Practitioner or GP.

What should I wear when seeing a chiropractor?

We recommend you wear comfortable and loose-fitting clothing that allows you to move freely. Please avoid jeans as this can make it difficult to test and treat you as they are not flexible.

Do chiropractors treat sports injuries?

Yes, we take care of many conditions that involve issue tissue damage such as rotator cuff injuries, tennis/golfers’ elbow and hamstring strains.

How much does a chiropractor cost?

This depends on the number of sessions you need. Our sessions range from £36-£45 per session. In your results session we go through what we have found, what we can do to help, how many sessions you need and the total cost.

Are chiropractors safe?

Chiropractors are considered to be safe when they are properly trained and licensed to practice. However, as with any medical profession, there are risks associated with chiropractic treatments.

The most common risks of chiropractic care include temporary soreness, stiffness, or discomfort in the treated area. These usually resolve on their own within a few hours or days.

To ensure the safety of chiropractic treatments, it is important to choose a licensed and qualified chiropractor who has received appropriate training and has a good reputation. It is also important to communicate any medical conditions or concerns you may have with your chiropractor before undergoing any treatments.
