What To Expect During Your First Chiropractic Care Appointment
If you’ve decided to visit a chiropractor for the first time, we can understand that you may be nervous about what to expect 😨. You may have heard from well-meaning friends and family that seeing a chiropractor involves all sorts of strange cracking sounds. In reality, chiropractic care is very gentle and often results in immediate pain relief 🙌.
We understand you may be feeling unsure 🤔 about your first appointment with us. So, to help you feel less anxious and worried, we’re here to share with you what happens, how you can expect to feel during your session and what to expect afterwards.
Arriving For Your Appointment
When you arrive at Inspired Health Chiropractic & Wellbeing Centre, you’ll be greeted by super friendly staff who are highly skilled and well-trained 😍. They understand that you’re most likely visiting us for the first time because you’re experiencing some pain and discomfort. Our clinic staff will treat you with care and make you feel at ease.
We’ll give you some brief paperwork for you to fill out so that we can get all the general information we need about you and any issues you are experiencing. 📜
You’ll then be collected from our waiting room by one of our expert chiropractors who will lead you to a consultation room.
During Your Appointment
As with most healthcare visits, we’ll start with getting your full medical history and then do a physical assessment 📝. To provide you with the best possible care that is tailored to your specific needs, we’ll take down all the relevant information about your background, medical issues you may have had, and any aches or pains you are experiencing.
We’ll then move on to orthopaedic and neurological testing; this is where we’ll examine your spine, nervous system, joints, and muscles to reach a diagnosis for any conditions you may have. Once we’ve learned everything we need to know, we’ll explain the results to you and start putting together your treatment plan.
Once we’ve explained to you what we have found, what we can do to help (your treatment plan), how many sessions you’ll need and the cost of our chiropractic care, we’ll start with your first adjustment.
Your First Adjustment
If we’ve decided, together, that it’s best that we get started on your chiropractic care right away, you’ll be asked to lie on a special table for an adjustment. We will then take the part of the body we are treating and move it to its maximum range. We may then give a gentle thrust to adjust the area. You might hear slight popping sounds while this is happening, this is perfectly normal.
The popping sound you hear is just gas releasing from the synovial fluid surrounding the restricted joint.
The gentle techniques we use during your first adjustment have been perfected over many years and will have been carefully selected to treat your specific issues.
After Your Treatment
Before leaving our clinic, we’ll give you some advice and instructions on how to take care of yourself at home 🏠. This may include some simple exercises and stretches you can do to further relieve your pain and alleviate strain, or the use of ice 🧊 and heat ♨applications. We’ll also let you know what activities and positions you should avoid so that you don’t cause any damage to your body.
Lastly, we’ll schedule your next appointment 🗓 with us. Your body will often require some time to heal and further chiropractic care to correct the issue you’re experiencing.
